The Sandwich Generation
Who’s in the sandwich generation?
🖐 🖐 Jana and I are!
Jana’s mom, Marilyn, is a polio survivor. She was diagnosed mere months before the vaccine was introduced.
She has overcome all odds, raising two beautiful daughters (and now 5 grandkids).
To say her life has been difficult would be an understatement. She has endured countless procedures and challenges. The disease has progressed with age and many activities of daily life are challenging.
We help as best as we can, understanding the demands of our careers with raising two young children (4.5 and 19 months) and of course our two rescue dogs – in other words, the #ModernParentJuggle!
Here’s how we’re making it work, together:
🏚️ We tap our village
We make sure her household chores are taken care of so we can focus on quality time when we’re together.
🏚️ We make healthcare a team sport
She’s getting wonderful care from Geisinger 65 Forward!
Sharing medical records access is a huge help for families in this boat and we highly recommend it, as long as everyone is on board.
🏚️ We are flexible
Coming to our house on Sunday afternoon means we can catch up on our life (dishes, laundry, food prep for the following week) while she has quality time with the kids. Fortunately she’s able to drive with an adaptive device!
Given all the noise about vaccines, Marilyn's story should serve as a haunting reminder. She would have done anything for the opportunity to get the vaccine and avoid the hardship she has experienced.
♻️ Who else is making this work and what’s your secret sauce?
A beautiful day in Scranton with Nana and two happy boys!
