Do you ever get around to living?

Jana heard John Mayer explain the meaning behind his song “If I Ever Get Around to Living” on SiriusXM.

He gave the example of building with Legos - what do when you’re finished building it? Is it “on to the next thing” or can you take a moment and appreciate what you’ve built?

So much of our adult lives is spent building, and working toward something. Once you’ve reached a milestone, do you take a beat to appreciate and enjoy it?

This song deeply resonated with us. Since becoming parents, we are more intentional about defining success, but also taking time to reflect on it.

We have a lot to learn from children in this regard. Brooks (4) gets so excited when he finishes a puzzle! He played all night last night with the Brio car he built.

How we do it:

🎉  Hold each other accountable. Milestones are real at work and at home.

🎉 Celebrating wins! Brooks and Hudson love to watch Frank, the baker at Tomasino’s Pizza, tossing the pizza dough in the air. Taking them to watch Frank is a treat when they do something special!

🎉 Don’t let perfect be the enemy of better, or good. Perfect is basically impossible for parents juggling busy careers and raising young children. We set realistic standards for what great looks like to us.

🎉 Don’t get caught up in someone else’s ideal. There will always be someone with more, but more isn’t always better.

We all work too hard not to enjoy what we’ve built. Get around to living!

♻️ How do you appreciate what you've built?

Brooks and Hudson appreciating Frank’s skills!
