Seeking Clarity in the Juggle

“When the mind is clear, joy follows” - Buddha

We learned recently, in a cute way, that the deck is stacked against us as working parents when it comes to seeking deep focus and mental clarity:

Brooks beat us over and over in his favorite matching game!

Yes, he’s a smart kid … but should a 4-year-old really be beating us?? How many years did we spend in school?? 😅

The Modern Parent Juggle is one distraction after another.

Jana and I take our work very seriously and with great pride. When we consider our time outside of work, we realized why our preschooler wiped the floor with us:

📋 Household chores
📋  Exercise
📋 Childcare and kid playtime
📋 Family and social commitments
📋 Birthday parties
📋 Taking care of our two rescue dogs

Add to the list any hobbies you’re able to maintain or downtime activities - perhaps reading, music, TV, social media, puzzles, or DIY projects.

With a to-do list like that, we always have split focus – what we’re doing vs. what’s next on the list.

We bounce from one thing to another seamlessly, but are we ever fully present?

Do we ever just sit and take a few deep breaths to reset and refresh?

With this in mind, we are doing “phones down” time at home when we have special time with our kids. Important notifications still come to our watches.

We went for a hike on a beautiful, 55 degree Sunday afternoon (FINALLY!) and only looked at our phones to take this photo.

♻️ How do you seek clarity?

PS - Jana did finally beat him!
