Here’s to you, Dad

After 44 years in practice, Warren Landesberg, my dad, worked his last day today.

A Bronx kid, he graduated from New York Chiropractic College in 1981. He hung a shingle in Briarcliff Manor, NY, a small town on the Hudson River in Westchester County, as a solo practitioner. It’s desirable suburb now, but in those days, it might as well have been the country.

With the practice growing, he and Naomi Landesberg left everything they knew and moved there a few years later. They raised 3 children (Emily Keating and Jason Landesberg, P.E.) there and gave us a beautiful, meaningful, and cultured life.

We learned the meaning of hard work. A day off was never really a day off. I couldn’t even guess how many times he had big plans for a Thursday off, only to get a call from a patient who needed him – perhaps they had gotten hurt in a game, or woken up with a backache. Without even a passing thought, he was in the car and off to save the day.

A few career highlights, among many:

🩻 He achieved Diplomate certification in the treatment of sports injuries and became the team Chiropractor for the local college (Pace University).

🩻  He has treated numerous professional athletes and celebrities.

🩻  He mentored many aspiring Chiropractors and proctored exams all over the country.

🩻  The one he’s most proud of - he told us over Passover dinner that he has now treated 5 generations of the same families.

His practice survived and thrived through all the machinations of healthcare policy over 44 years, not to mention COVID-19.

Did he hang on a few years too long? Probably. Why? Because he couldn’t stand the thought of leaving his patients in a lurch.

Some say it’s hard to find good role models these days. Luckily, his 5 grandkids, including our two boys, don’t have too far to look.

Here’s to you, Dad! We love you and congratulations on your retirement!
