Carbs get a bad rap!

The inverted food pyramid is a hot news story today: https://lnkd.in/euYP7RpX

Jana and I have shared before that we’ve doubled down on a high protein diet with minimal processed foods and plenty of fruits and vegetables. We’ve all but eliminated enriched “white” carbs and buy only whole wheat, oat, brown rice, or multigrain products.

Improving our diet has:
💪 Given us more energy
💪 Improved our athletic performance
💪 Helped overcome many sleepless nights in a dual working parent household.

Carbs are an important part of a balanced diet, particularly for those living an active lifestyle, but choosing the right carbs is key.

We are lucky to be able to buy delicious fresh-baked bread every week. For those of you in Northeast Pennsylvania, Beta Bread Bakery comes to the Back Mountain Memorial Library in Dallas all year round!

Jana enjoys a slice of multigrain bread every morning with good culture or Nancy's Probiotic Foods cottage cheese - even on vacation! Have I mentioned she’s a creature of habit?

We have a special place in our culture for bread, specifically Challah.

Challah is a braided egg bread traditionally enjoyed on the Jewish Sabbath and holidays. It is made with flour, eggs, water, yeast, sugar and salt. And yes, there are whole wheat options!

Our dear friends Paula M. Chaiken and Joe Kraus taught us how to make Challah. The kids and parents loved it!

Modern Parent Juggle rubber meets the road moment – we visited friends this weekend and we picked up bagels. Brooks (4) asked for Plain Whole Wheat! Proud parents!

Disclaimer – this is not a political statement and not medical advice, but rather our take on an emerging news story.

Also – very excited for Zeke Emanuel’s new book – Eat Your Ice Cream: https://lnkd.in/e-iifhZU
