Remembering the moments that matter
"You blink and they're in college!"
🧠TuesdayTip - here's how we remember the priceless memories of our kids amid the busyness of everyday life as working parents.
Everyone told us before we had kids that the days and nights are long but the years fly by.
How true that is!
Over the last week alone,
Hudson (14 months) tried to stand unassisted for the first time.
Brooks (4) started to put letters together to form words - starting to read!
Hudson started using baby sign language.
Brooks buttoned and unbuttoned his shirt.
Without a good system, these memories would be lost forever amid the blur of busy careers and poor sleep.
It would be lovely to make scrapbooks and photo albums to show our kids as they grow older, but there is only one pie of time, and it would be at the expense of exercise or quality time with the kids.
When Brooks was little, Jana and I started logging these precious events in our shared Google Calendar with simple tags:
Brooks first tooth 2022 (age 6 months)
Brooks gets himself dressed 2024 (age 3)
Hudson rolls over 2024 (age 4 months)
Hudson eats a sour pickle 2025 (age 6 months) – true story
We set them to recur yearly so they don’t get lost in calendar history.
Without fail, they always make us smile when they come back around!
We also record the not-so-great moments, especially when there was a lesson learned.
How do you remember the memories that matter?
